VROOM is a tool for viewing the instance metadata of Oracle databases. The tool visually summarizes the performance information stored in the Oracle data dictionary views, while preventing unintentional or unauthorized access to application data. VROOM also avoids unintentional modifications to the database schema (accidental deletion or modification of data or database objects) by strictly limiting the roles and object privileges of the tools users. VROOM allows the user to examine the following types of metadata:--User Session Information (including query execution plans)--Tablespace Allocation--Tablespace Fragmentation--System Global Area (SGA) Composition--Dictionary Hit Ratios--Wait Events --Realtime Datafile I/O Rates--Host Server Processes--Storage Device I/O Rates--Database Infrastructure (Startup Parameters, Rollback and Undo Segments, Redo Logs, Control Files)--Long-Running Operations (and expected completion times)--Schema Objects (Tables and Indexes, Functions, Procedures, Packages, Keys, etc.)--Includes support for table and index partitions in Oracle 8i and above.By examining this information, an informed database consumer can determine the general operational health of a database. This tool is aimed at technical managers who do not require access to more sophisticated database management tools. It is not intended to replace an onsite database administrator, since VROOM does not allow modifications to the database.VROOM includes the following features: Secure access to multiple Oracle database instances from a single user interface. Encrypts and securely stores instance login information between uses. Self-contained: does not require creation of special database objects (except an optional table for viewing query plans.)-- Questions about a feature or control? Extensive help available through right-clicking mouse on controls; explains meaning of feature for database tuning.- Works with multiple versions of the Oracle server (Oracle 7.3.4 and above, Unix, Linux and Windows versions.)
