Networked PCs are vulnerable. Hackers & Scanners - Worms & Viruses - You are vulnerable even if no one targets you in particular. What you need is an extra layer of security between your PC and the world. Omniquad Personal Firewall offers just that. By monitoring network activity in real time, it lets you control attempted internet access by programs and also lets you define & enforce trusted zones for other users on your LAN. OPF filters all inbound and outbound network traffic, and alerts you to attempted intrusions. OPF is especially useful for users with "always-on" connections such as DSL or Cable modem. Such connections use a static IP address that makes them especially vulnerable to detection by potential hackers. Hackers scan the Internet for PCs with unpatched OS vulnerabilities. OPF will help you prevent this kind of access to your PC. It provides a 4-level packet filter firewall protection for the local network / dial up/ ASDL and cable modem connections . It will automatically lock or shut down all internet access after specified period of inactivity. OPF also has a global lock that immediately shuts down all net access.

This is the Freeware version.
